How To Tighten Sunglasses Without a Screwdriver

 September 30, 2022

By  Diane Wuthrich

The screws that hold sunglasses together can become loose which will require tightening so that you can continue to wear them. Since a screwdriver may not always be readily available, how do you tighten sunglasses without one?

Using household objects can be used to tighten sunglasses without the need for a screwdriver. A micro USB cable, thin paper clip, or a small metal ruler can be fit into the screw’s furrows to adjust the screws until it’s tight enough.

These household objects are easy to use for tightening sunglasses. Read on below to learn more.

Tightening Sunglasses Without a Screwdriver

A screwdriver isn’t the only tool you can use to tighten your sunglasses. There are three ways you can do so using ordinary household items.

Using a Micro USB

A micro USB cable that you already use for your electronics is a simple alternative to a screwdriver. The connector is small and thin enough to fit into small sunglass screws.

What You’ll Need

-   One micro USB Cable is all you need for this solution.

Process

  1. Use the smallest, thinnest part of the USB connector’s end.
  2. Put it on the hinge screws of the sunglasses the way you would with a screwdriver.
  3. Rotate the screws using a clockwise direction using the USB connector head.

Your sunglasses will be tighter after half a rotation, and you can now use them. Avoid tightening it too much since the cable is significantly bigger than the screw as this can result in damage.

Using a Paperclip

A fine metal paperclip works best to adjust the screws on your sunglasses especially if the screws are very small. Colored paper clips have a painted coating which makes them thicker.

What You’ll Need

-   A thin metal paper clip is an inexpensive solutions for tightening sunglasses without a screwdriver.

-   A small hammer will come in handy for flattening out one end of the paper clip. Amazon has inexpensive hammers available:

Process

  1. Straighten out one paper clip using your hands.
  2. Flatten one end of it using the hammer.
  3. Put the flat end of the paper clip into the screw furrow, then rotate it clockwise halfway.

Repeat the process as needed until your sunglasses are tight enough.

Using a Metal Ruler

Perhaps you may have a metal ruler laying around at home. It’s another easy way to tighten your sunglasses.

What You’ll Need

-   A small, metal ruler though the 6-inch models will work best. These are the ideal sizes for fitting into the sunglass screws.

Process

  1. Take one corner of the ruler and fit it into the screw furrows.
  2. Rotate clockwise halfway to tighten it gently, since the edges of metal rulers are quite sharp.

Repeat the process using the ruler until your sunglasses have reached the desired tightness.

Conclusion

With these three household items, you can now easily adjust the tightness of your sunglasses without a screwdriver. Best of all, these techniques are easy to do.
